Mouse Trapping

Mouse-trapping is a technique where web sites try to keep visitors from leaving the site. This is seen as a way of reducing “bounce” from a site – the syndrome where visitors to a site enter and then leave very quickly.

Mouse-trapping is common with pornographic websites where an endless series of pop-up adverts (an advert that appears automatically in a separate web browser) or even relaunching the website in a window that cannot be closed. In this situation the window runs as a stand-alone application often making the browser’s menu and taskbar unavailable.  Another technique is to disable the backbutton.

Here at Graphic Alliance we do not use this technique because its unethical to the core. We’d rather work on building a web architecture that leads users deeper into the site and building great useable content and great offers!
